Coraopolis and the surrounding area have always been blessed with good restaurants. The magnificent Hyeholde is ranked the top restaurant in Pennsylvania. Riddle's was for 50 years one of Allegheny County's top 10 restaurants, drawing thousands from all over the Pittsburgh area to its Cory location below the tracks. The Fifth Avenue was a long time local hangout in the center of town. Gilberti's on 4th Avenue was the first place west of Pittsburgh to serve Pizza back in the 1950s. We had Fusco's by the Neville Island Bridge and LoBello's next to the Armory. For adults only, there were Segneri's and Berardi's, bars which also served pretty good food. There was Isaly's on Mill Street, and, down past the Sewickley Bridge, Hawkins' Tastee Freeze Drive In. Out on Beaver Grade Road was The Sea Shell. Sewickley had the Sewickley Hotel. Of all these, only Hyeholde, The Sea Shell and The Sewickley Hotel remain today. On these pages we review the current restaurants in Coraopolis and the surrounding area. We'll revisit these on a rotating basis to keep menu information up to date. Our definition of "restaurant" is a full service, year round, sit down facility with a menu, wait staff and food prepared in a kitchen. We don't include fast food, seasonal outlets or food trucks.
