Oakdale might be the best kept secret in the Western Hills. Most Cory residents have never been there. It's a village on the southern boundary of Settlers Cabin State Park in Collier Township. The park is rather large, and tends to "hide" Oakdale, which is on the back side, away from the park's main entrance across the Parkway West from Settlers Ridge. People "find" the village because of the park's hiking trails and wave pool. But Oakdale is a very old community (founded 1872), which had freight and passenger stations on the old P&WV Railroad and served as a center for farms in the surrounding rural area. It had a prosperous business district until 2004, when a Hurricane Ivan flood devastated the town. Many of the businesses never reopened. However, Oakdale is now a major stop along the Panhandle Bicycling Trail, and has three restaurants.
